I tried avoiding the win 10 nag popup by manually reviewing and blocking updates. This became tiresome, especially since microsoft renames and reenables the stuff I thought I blocked.
Found out there is a better solution for this.
Install this patch:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3065987
Run this as a registry file:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\OSUpgrade] "AllowOSUpgrade"=- "KickoffDownload"=- "KickoffSource"=- "ReservationsAllowed"=- "OSUpgradeInteractive"=- [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\OSUpgrade\State] "OSUpgradeState"=dword:00000001 "OSUpgradePhase"=- [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate] "DisableOSUpgrade"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Gwx] "DisableGwx"=dword:00000001
